The countries at the top of my list right now, in no particular order.
Turkmenistan
It's the hardest country in Central Asia to get a visa for. I want to see the Door to Hell gas crater and the white marble buildings of Ashgabat.
Ethiopia
The rock-cut churches at Lalibela, the Omo Valley, and the Danakil Depression, one of the hottest places on earth.
Lesotho
It's completely surrounded by South Africa, and the whole country sits above 1,000m, which is why it's called the Mountain Kingdom.
Tuvalu
One of the least visited countries in the world. Nine small islands in the Pacific, and none of the land is more than 5m above sea level.
Tanzania
Kilimanjaro, the Serengeti and Zanzibar, the classic East Africa route.
Azerbaijan
Baku's old walled city sits right next to its new glass skyline. It was a Silk Road stop between Europe and Asia.
Bhutan
Every visitor pays a daily fee to be there, Tiger's Nest monastery sits on the side of a cliff, and the government measures Gross National Happiness.
